About Camilo
I'm from Bogotá, Colombia. I started teaching Spanish as a foreign language (ELE) in the U.K. in 2006. Two years later I came back to Colombia and I started to teach English. In 2010 I enrolled to a diploma course at Universidad Nacional de Colombia to teach ELE. In 2011 I finished a course to teach with International House Barcelona and the University of Barcelona. Since then, I have been teaching ELE continuously in Colombia and in 2017 I finished my Master´s degree in linguistics Spanish as a foreign language at Universidad Javeriana-Bogotá. I have taught Spanish at International House Bogotá, the American Embassy in Bogotá and online.
I´m an experienced and certified Spanish teacher. I have taught Spanish to people from all over the world, people with different backgrounds (backpackers, retirees and pensioners, university students, business people, homeschooling children, military personnel) language skill levels and all ages.
One of the things that I enjoy the most in my job as ELE teacher is the possibility of meeting people from different countries with different life experiences and perspectives that allow me to enrich my own life and the way I see things. All those differences are an integral part during my lessons where I try that my students make the most of them as I do.
In my lessons students will use Spanish while learning it from the beginning. First I´ll be interested to know why are they learning the language and what´s their previous experience with Spanish lessons or their exposure to the language. An initial talk and a placement test if the student wants to take it will help me to evaluate her Spanish skill levels. During the lessons I will use graded language, material and activities according to this assessment. The communicative language activities include listening and reading comprehension, spoken and written interaction, spoken and written production and mediation as in real-life language use.
